The River Wey

A Collection of Photographs

Tony Clayton

This collection of pages shows pictures taken on the River Wey starting in the late 1970's, with others taken more recently. The images are scanned from slides and are available on application to me in far greater resolution.

When I first visited the river in 1978 many sections were very shallow, with several lock gates leaking very badly. We watched while The National Trust improved the state of the two navigations enormously during the 27 years that we lived in the area and cruised aboard our Dawncraft Dandy, 'Linton'.

Initially only a few photos taken when we left the river in 2002 were shown, but as scanning progresses, so more will be added. Stop Press: new photos taken on the Godalming to Guildford section have been added, 26th August 2008

Slide Shows

I have given a number of slide shows to waterway societies in the past.

The two main titles I have used are 'Locks, Bridges and Tunnels' (a personal view of the many features to be found on both UK and overseas waterways), and 'The Shrewsbury and Newport Canals' (a look at the two waterways illustrated with both old and recent images, not all shown on this web site).

Now living in Lincolnshire, I would be happy to talk to any organisation in the East Midlands.

If you wish to get in contact, feel free to mail me at mail me, taking the 'penny' out of this address and please include the word 'canal' in your subject line to avoid your email falling into my spamtrap!
