The balance beam is on the 'wrong' side. It was a spare gate provided free by BW so the reconstructed forebay had to be designed round the gate. The original gates were a pair made of cast iron now to be seen at Stoke Breurne

These pictures of Belan Locks were taken using an ancient camera using 116 film, a format obsolete for many years. The film used was well past its use-by date.
